Maybe Tomorrow?
Maybe Tomorrow?
This painting is from the "Pachamama's Children Series - Peru
This young girl was selling woven belts to tourists and when turned down, she would smile and say "Maybe tomorrow?" She did not speak English and this was one of the few English expressions that she had learned. Before I left her, I bought most of what she was carrying.
I realized when I titled the painting this, that I wanted the meaning to be taken two ways - from her world and from mine. Maybe tomorrow, she can sell all her weavings and as well she can benefit in a healthy, rich life from our technological, scientific and medical advances. Maybe tomorrow, we can learn to live in peace and share with each other. Maybe we can learn "ayni" and give back to the earth what we take so we preserve the planet. Maybe tomorrow, we can learn what she takes for granted.
