On My Own
This was the first painting I did in a series at the botanical garden in Vancouver when I was left on my own on crutches. My imagination was immersed in the sway of the lily pads jostling one another, the sparkle of light and colour and the one flower trying not to be submerged by breeze and water. I intentionally made the one petal on the left appear to be stretching out for balance so the flower could stay floating on the surface of the pond and did not get submerged. There are times in life when support, either visible or invisible helps us carry on.
