Restless River
Restless River
This was painted while sitting on rocks beside the Waikato River near Taupo, near Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand.
I first noticed the light yellow tree and as the cloudy sky turned to blue, I noticed the play of warm and cool greens and the reflections and dance of light on the moving water. I thought of rivers elsewhere in the world and could see a resemblance with Canada. We thought we were all alone until a troop in kayaks with their bright colors slid down the river and the silence was broken. It was nice to have a communion of those who enjoy nature in different ways. It was so windy that it became necessary to hold or tie down equipment. It was a first to have to tie down a painting to prevent my canvas from blowing away. Our guide went into the river to retrieve one of the other artist's equipment.
